Parent Advisory Club
October 14, 2008
We had our first PAC meeting last week with Tim and Linda to discuss what the
swim team needs and the direction we're headed. Thanks to all the parents who
volunteered to hold PAC positions. I've talked with a few of you but not enough
to get a clear feel for what the parents want. Tim recently sent out a Parent
Survey and he has only received 6 back. PLEASE fill these out and return them
so the coaching staff and the parent group is aware of your thoughts and ideas
for the team.
Some of the things we discussed were the equipment needs of the team,
fundraising, USA Swimming and meet schedule. We held 2 fundraisers last year
and will need to participate in some this season as well in order to cover costs
of the team. Also, with the addition of more swim meets there will be
additional costs for coaching time.
Sabrina Harder has stepped up to be our Fundraising Coordinator - Thanks
Sabrina!! She has put together a great fundraiser that is starting this week.
You all have the info in your folders. Please have your child check their
folder if you will not be coming in to swim practice. Hear are the details:
Poinsettia Fundraiser (This is the flyer Sabrina put together and a copy is in
your folder)
Poinsettias are a great fundraiser because most of your friends and family
members will pick one or two up for the holidays anyway, so why not support the
Y swim team in the process?
Our goal is for each family so sell 5 poinsettias at $15.00 a piece. The plants
are in 6 1/2 inch pots with 7-8 blooms. While the price is comparable to what
you'd find at Lowe's, these plants are of much higher quality - fresh and
greenhouse grown from our local Egan Gardens. We are trying to sell only red to
keep things simple but if a large order requests white or pink let me know
immediately and I'll notify the grower.
The orders are due Wednesday, October 29th. The plants will be available to
customers December 3rd. Even if people aren't really ready to think of
Christmas right now, remind them they don't receive the plants until December.
Please collect $15 (cash or check payable to YMCA) immediately at the time of
order.
When thinking of potential customers, please consider businesses in your area.
Most businesses will buy at least one or two. If you have the good fortune of
landing a large account or your family sells more than ten please contact me
immediately so I can change our estimated order with Egan Gardens.
Sabrina has already had great success with some business orders. We need
everyone's help with this. The swim team dues are really affordable, which is
great, but they do not cover all the needs of the team. Also, if your child is
planning on participating in the USA meets then we have to have your support in
order to continue to offer this opportunity for the kids. This is a great
fundraiser and we are hoping it is really successful so we will not have to do
lots of them.
We have a great group of kids and the coaching staff is really excited about
teaching them and making this a successful season for each one of them. Please
participate in the fundraiser and complete your survey. Contact me with any
questions and you can also call Sabrina with fundraiser questions.
Thanks for your support.
